May – Mental Health Month

Join us in recognizing May as Mental Health Month, and help us share resources with our community.

#LookAroundLookWithin

About This Campaign

This campaign is designed to begin conversations about changes going on around us and within us. As a community, we want everyone to know that it’s okay to struggle and that no one needs to do it alone. Wearing green won’t solve our issues with depression, anxiety, trauma, fear, or any other problem we’re facing. However, it’s an opportunity to stand together and point to the resources in our community that offer help. Thank you for participating in the 3rd year of this campaign!

The Garrett County Health Department’s Office of Population Health, Innovation, and Informatics is coordinating the Mental Health Awareness Month campaign with all of our partners through the Health Planning Council’s Child and Adolescent Wellness Workgroup and the Garrett County Local Behavioral Health Authority.

New for 2023! Jennifer Lee Steckman (GCHD) and Dr. Karl Schwalm, along with a dedicated sub-committee of the Child and Adolescent Wellness Workgroup, are coordinating a MASSIVE Child Mental Health Month Campaign to greatly expand access to resources for this population. Scroll down to see more resources from this group, and/or submit a request for materials.

Here are some ways you can get involved:

  • Throughout May, we will be highlighting agencies, community groups, and businesses that want to participate by wearing green. Send your group photo to [email protected] to be included in the campaign!
  • More ways coming soon! Stay tuned as we get closer to May!

Mental Health Month Resources

New for 2023! Many of these resources were compiled by the Child & Adolescent Wellness Workgroup Sub-Committee for Child Mental Health Month, spearheaded by Jennifer Lee-Steckman, Director of Nursing at the Garrett County Health Department, and Dr. Karl Schwalm, Chair of the Child & Adolescent Wellness Workgroup, along with a number of dedicated community volunteers (including some of the individuals listed below). A HUGE thanks goes out to this group of dedicated individuals for organizing a MASSIVE campaign for this increasingly vulnerable population.
