Our latest initiative, GC In Motion is in full swing and we’re delighted to invite you to get your groove on at Jazzercise! Jazzercise in Oakland Maryland is a fitness center offering group classes for all levels. Classes incorporate HIIT cardio dance moves with strength training for the ultimate full-body workout that can slay your wellness goals. While supplies last you can drop in for the LO (low intensity)class. Muscles, not momentum, drive this 60-minute class. It’s a low-impact, dance-based cardio and strength training class designed with you in mind. High-impact movements are replaced with hop-less alternatives that protect the joints. All are welcome and encouraged to try out this muscle-driven workout, but make no mistake-you’ll leave sweating and feeling accomplished. Taught by Lisa Malone @ 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. There’s also a 5:30 p.m. LO class taught by Miranda Gallagher on Tuesday and Thursday.

All these free fitness opportunities are made possible through the CareFirst grant award that is funding our GC In Motion initiative through the Population Health, Innovation, and Informatics Unit at the Garrett County Health Department. John Corbin and I make up the team that operates the Unit and in the last two years have dramatically expanded our duties to include chronic disease prevention as the need for accessible opportunities became more apparent. Chronic disease is still our number one cause of mortality in Garrett County and there are so many simple lifestyle changes we can incorporate to help prevent and manage chronic diseases.

Jazzercise is not new to the Go! Garrett County platform. They’ve been a community partner we’ve been highlighting since our first Chronic Disease grant award and if you are logged in right now with your free account on GO, you are earning prize points for reading this and extra points for commenting on the post! Jazzercise classes are in our Prize Shop within this site, as well as a variety of other awesome prizes to help you make healthy lifestyle choices. Try it out, if you like your free classes during the Summer of Fun events via GC In Motion, you can work on reading the articles, on GO to earn your points and cash in even more Jazzercise classes this fall!

We’re all in this together, building community and increasing opportunities for people to be physically active by removing barriers including fees for fitness, it’s just one small way we can help. This comprehensive program utilizes numerous community partners and is specifically designed to keep people moving with free family-friendly events, we want everyone to feel welcome and take advantage of this Summer of Fun!

Checking our events calendar is one of the best ways to find out what’s happening and schedule some fitness fun into your week! New community partners are being added all the time, offering a variety of events at no cost to you! Here’s the link: https://gcinmotion.garrettcountyapps.com/community-calendar/
