A.J. DeLauder, owner, and operator of the Tiny Corner Bike Shop in Oakland, Maryland completed The Tour Divide!!! A bikepacking race starting in the Canadian Rockies and going for 2,700 miles through extreme weather conditions to the U.S. border with Mexico.

You can read more about it in the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/04/sports/tour-divide-race-bikepackers.html/

(AJ is quoted!-it’s pretty cool) Better yet, stop in the shop and talk to AJ about the incredible journey!

AJ responded to our Fitness & Fun funding call in May proposing four unique offerings in our GC In Motion initiative, we are delighted our community can benefit from all the knowledge and experiences AJ has to share!

The Tiny Corner Bike Shop will host “Workshop Wednesdays” starting this week! These workshops will focus on educating new and old cyclists alike about best practices on topics such as tube replacement, basic bicycle repair, and planning a safe cycling route using online tools (Strava, MapMyRide, etc.), as well as one workshop that will introduce participants to the concept of bikepacking.

These workshops will help provide participants with their own tools to use following the completion of the workshops, thus helping to lower the bar of entry for new cyclists and lessen costs for more experienced riders. Lastly, this offering will help to establish a bikepacking “loaner program” for those in the local community who would like to try bikepacking but cannot afford the often costly seat bags and handlebar bags required to do so effectively. Indeed, in a rural community such as Oakland, Maryland, cost remains the biggest hurdle to experiencing and enjoying cycling.

We have 3 events this Wednesday! Offerings include starting your day with Jazzercise, Yoga is at 5:30, with just enough time to make it to AJ’s for the first Workshop! Check out the other fun offerings on our GC In Motion calendar and let’s keep fun in our fitness routines https://gcinmotion.garrettcountyapps.com/community-calendar/
