Witnessing the northern lights is one of my bucket-list experiences that I’m sure would be transformational! The conditions need to be perfect for this spectacular display to take place. December through March is usually the best time to observe this elusive natural phenomenon close to the arctic circle.
It’s doubtful that I’ll be experiencing aurora viewing this December, just about as unlikely as the crew from Garrett County stepping into Alaska. But that’s precisely what we’ve accomplished in just seven weeks! We’ve collectively recorded over 10 Million steps, leaving the Town Parking Lot in Oakland, heading west across the Great Plains, through the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean, and then north to Alaska!
As we celebrate our accomplishment in this movement journey, I’m raising my glass and toasting to HOPE! Let’s do what we can every day to care for our bodies and minds! Remember to reduce our footprint as we help preserve our environment. Always being mindful that the small things we do today make a difference to not only ourselves but our neighbors who live Ten Billion steps away!
It’s the last day to turn in your step logs for this week; visit https://gcinmotion.garrettcountyapps.com/ to submit your steps!

Ahhhh…..so yesterday’s post about leaders was about the week before! Hope you get to see those Northern Lights….take us with you!
I drive a hybrid car & recycle Upgraded light bulbs. Wash clothes in cold water. Don’t travel by air. Would like to see Alaska & the Northern Lights in person. For now will have to watch on tv as I use my elliptical. Happy to see so many step’s being taken for health.
We have replaced a couple appliances lately. Would like to say we reduce food waste….but we reduce the waste by eating it!!! 😂
We recycle as much as they allow us here. We try to reduce electric usage and we try to not eat a lot of beef. But I’m a steak girl so that’s hard sometimes.
We recycle as much as the county allows. We also compost, and have a garden.
That # of Steps us amazing for our little community.
In an effort to care for God’s creation, we reuse and repurpose. Composting, recycling, and air drying clothes are a few of the ways we take care of the world around us.
We try to reuse and recycle as much as possible. Way to go to all on that number of steps! Impressive!
Way to go everyone! Keep on stepping.
Seeing the auroras is definitely on my bucket list as well.
10 Million steps! That is an incredible accomplishment!
I can’t imagine 10 million steps. Congratulations!!
Congrats everyone!
I’ve been to Alaska but it was in May and there were no auroras seen, although I looked for them every night. It was in May so chances were slim. I’d be happy to return to see them!
