It’s early in the season for cabin fever; these short, cold days are tough! Today, I’m offering some hope: There is a fun activity that you can play for free all winter long! Yep, it’s free, thanks to much collaboration and a large grant!

Chris Menna and Deb Rowens are part of the Senior Health & Fitness Club. They have dedicated countless hours to organizing and running the DCL Pickleballers, which has helped increase access to physical fitness opportunities in Garrett County. We’re pleased to continue collaborating with them as we sponsor pickleball at the Ag Hall in McHenry, Maryland.

It’s a fun activity for all ability levels. This group will lend you a paddle and teach you the basics. Please wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes.

Please mark your calendars and plan on playing as we celebrate this exciting new opportunity at the Ag Hall in McHenry on Friday, December 13th, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Additional dates we’ll be playing in December include the 16th, 20th, and 27th!

On the following days of each month, Community Action will provide free transportation from Friendsville:

December 20th and 27th

January 17th and 24th

February 7th and 14th

March 7th and 14th

To schedule a trip, call (301) 533 – 9010 Monday through Friday, 7:00 am – 6:00 pm. Telephone calls after 6:00 pm are recorded and reviewed the next work day. Please schedule your recreational pickleball ride at least one week in advance.  The pick up/drop off location will be the Friendsville Senior Center, 947 Community Dr, Friendsville, MD 21531

The Western Maryland Area Health Education Center (AHEC West) makes this opportunity possible. They coordinated community partners and submitted an application that secured $4.5 million from the state Community Health Resources Commission (CHRC).

Please mark your calendars and plan on playing as we celebrate this exciting new opportunity at the Ag Hall in McHenry on Friday, December 13th, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. I hope to see you there!
