Why canning? 

• To save money! Who doesn’t love that? There is an initial investment to set up for canning, but once you have the materials, most of it is reusable. It allows you to buy vegetables and fruit in bulk and to preserve them all at once. 

• For better food! Canning allows you to process food at its peak. Fresh farm produce preserved for home-cooked meals is the best! It also allows control over what you are eating, eliminating the need to wonder about preservatives, food colorings, or anything else. 

• To reduce waste. If you have a garden, whenever there is an excess of a vegetable or fruit, it can be frozen, dehydrated, pickled, or canned. Sometimes you will find that farms will have markdowns on produce when they have an excess, too. You can have days of food prepared to pull out at a moment’s notice. 

• For food security. Prices of food fluctuate; there is security in knowing you have jars of food in storage. There is something satisfying in knowing that you have laid up food for any season of life. 

If you are interested in learning to can, we have a few spots left. Please join us to learn the basics about pressure canning. Enjoy some hands-on experience as we can green beans together.
