School Health Services Manager, Rebecca Aiken, MSN, MBA, M.Ed., RN, NCSN for Garrett County Public Schools helped organize our efforts to ensure students had the opportunity to participate in mental health awareness month. We kicked off the campaign by inviting all students and staff to wear green on May 7th. In addition, each school participated in a unique way as they worked to create more connections and begin conversations about mental health. Northern Middle School had a small presentation on mental health and a Q & A during lunches. The school nurse and counselor worked together and reported that it was very well received by the students.

As May comes to an end and our campaign closes out for this year, let’s not forget how important connection is for our health. Simple smiles, showing kindness, and looking for the best in people around us are really simple ways to encourage connectedness. Keep reaching out if you need help or you can help!
